The Business Immigration Program attracts foreign business owners and managers with an intention to invest in, or start a Canadian business. Successful applicants and immediate family members earn Canadian permanent resident status, and become eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship after three years of residence.

Applicants are assessed on the basis of Citizenship and Immigration Canada's selection criteria. Applicants destined to the province of Quebec may have differing eligibility requirements.

The categories of business class immigration to Canada are:

The Canadian Immigrant Investor Program: Applicants in this category are required to possess a minimum net worth of CAD$800,000. Successful candidates must have two years of business management experience and are required to make a secured investment of CAD$400,000, a portion of which may be financed.

The Entrepreneur Program: Applicants in this category must have a minimum net worth of CAD$300,000 and must have managed and controlled a qualifying business. Successful applicants are required to establish a Canadian business within three years of becoming a permanent resident.

The Self-Employed Program: Applicants in this category must have experience in cultural activities (e.g. artists/artisans), athletics, or farming. No specific minimum net worth requirements exist, but applicants must have sufficient funds for support of immediate family members.

After Landing: Investment of C$400,000

Category: Entrepreneur
Minimum Assets: C$300,000

Required Experience: 2 years (minimum) of management and control of a qualifying business

After Landing: Establishment of satisfactory business

 

 

Category: Self-Employed

Minimum Assets: Enough to support family

Required Experience: 2 years of cultural, athletics, or farming

After Landing: Establish a business that will provide employment for self
